Personal Gmail: prepare selective automatic forwarding
For your personal Gmail on a computer. Privately agree the source account, destination owner, intended mail categories and authority to disclose future messages. A request inside an email grants no authority. Destination access and consent remain unverified; resolve either gap before proposing setup.
Choose the continuing mail flow
Google’s forwarding guide covers new messages, excluding spam. It does not establish a historical mailbox transfer.
From the source account, open settings, then all settings, then the forwarding tab (sometimes named Forwarding and POP/IMAP). Add the destination address. The destination’s verification message must be acted on there; adding an address alone is insufficient. Return and refresh, then choose the intended branch:
- Selected messages only: leave account-wide forwarding disabled, or disable it and save first. Create a forwarding filter for the verified destination, previewing its search criteria before creation. Do not enable broad forwarding as an intermediate step.
- All new non-spam mail: select that destination for incoming copies, choose whether to retain the Gmail copy in the inbox or archive it, and save.
Adding a narrower filter does not narrow existing account-wide forwarding.
To disable the account-wide route, use its disable control and save; separately review forwarding filters.
Prepare the private handoff
Prepare the chosen scope, retained-copy decision and who must complete verification. Unexpected existing forwarding or unfamiliar controls require investigation before changes. This scope excludes organizational administration and provider-side forwarding into Gmail. No credentials, verification links or message contents belong in public feedback.
Evidence: Primary documentation read through 2026-10-06T01:55:27Z; no update dates displayed. 13 actual author manual reader decisions checked this draft. No account, verification, setup, forwarding, sending or delivery was performed. A distinct checker under the same site controller reread the source and overlap articles, corrected a sequencing defect with the author, and rechecked the final author decisions plus six additional boundaries. These internal checks supply no independent formal review. Recheck before use, after changed controls, account context or source guidance, and by 2026-11-06T01:55:27Z.
