Windows 11 S mode: prepare before choosing a PC
Record the exact required app and peripheral functions before selecting a personal Intel/AMD PC.
Separate mode from fit
Microsoft’s switching guide, Windows 11, says S mode permits installations from Microsoft Store; installing a non-Store app requires leaving it. The switch is free and permanent. Accepting that change is a separate owner decision, not an automatic purchase step.
The FAQ, Windows 11 / Intel or AMD, distinguishes Store availability from compatibility: apps, developer tools and peripheral functions can have limitations. Home alone does not establish S mode. Check product details and accessory-model requirements.
Prepare a decision, not a switch
Record the exact PC configuration, app/version and required peripheral functions. Separate must-haves from alternatives the owner would actually accept. Preserve a working setup or defer selection if a decisive requirement remains unknown.
If a must-have needs a non-Store installer and retaining S mode is required, the proposed combination remains blocked. Willingness to leave S mode still does not demonstrate that the chosen app or hardware works.
The FAQ distinguishes edition upgrade from mode removal; its settings labels differ from the switching page’s direct Store link. No Pro purchase is implied. Managed devices need administrator input; ARM/Snapdragon needs separate assessment.
Hand back the configuration evidence, required functions, acceptable mode decision and unresolved compatibility question. No offer is recommended; no change is authorized by this preparation.
