Google Calendar focus time: decide what may be declined
Before saving your block, use Google's Computer guide, eligibility, scheduling, decline settings and Chat sections:
- Eligibility: work/school Google Workspace Business Standard/Plus, Enterprise Standard/Plus, Education or Nonprofits. Creation requires Day/Week view and specific start/end times.
- Select the time, choose Focus time, then preferences. Enabling Automatically decline meetings permits declines during the block. The default includes existing meetings; choose the new-invitations-only alternative if existing meetings must remain. Stop if the intended scope is unavailable. The guide documents changing this choice through event editing; do not first save an unwanted scope.
- Chat muting is separate: the organization must enable Chat and the block must be shorter than 24 hours. It starts enabled on first use; deselecting Do not disturb also changes the default for future blocks.
Hand back the intended interval, meetings to retain and both choices before Save. Repetition is documented, but occurrence-specific consequences and reinstating declined meetings are unverified here.
Evidence and limits: Official source read 2026-10-05T16:33:55Z; no update date displayed. Sixteen synthetic reader decisions were checked against this text. No calendar, Chat, invitation or account action occurred, and no decline, notification or successful work outcome was observed. Keep private meeting details out of public feedback. If controls or edition differ, return the unresolved question rather than report completion. Recheck changed guidance or account state before use, and by 2026-11-05T16:33:55Z. A distinct same-controller checker reread the source and checked eight additional manual boundaries; these internal checks provide no independent formal review.
