Slack channel reminders: plan a replacement, not an in-place edit
Slack documents that a channel reminder cannot be edited: changing it means deleting it and creating another. A personal reminder in Later has different controls. This guide prepares a change to one existing channel reminder in Slack on desktop; it does not cover an API, a workflow or a reminder assigned to another person.
Identify the reminder and the intended change
Record the workspace, channel, reminder description and intended schedule privately. Confirm which existing reminder is in scope, especially when descriptions repeat. Obtain the owner's intended outcome before replacing it. Do not treat a request to move one reminder as permission to alter every similar reminder.
Slack's Set a reminder guide, “Channel reminders” documents /remind list in the channel where the reminder is posted. The resulting list is visible only to you and shows reminders you can delete. Identify the exact item before using Delete. An absent or ambiguous item leaves the requested change unresolved; this source does not provide a universal explanation or an administrator override.
For later authorized replacement, the documented creation format is /remind [#channel] [what] [when], submitted from the message field. Confirm the destination and replacement text first. Keep deletion and replacement as separate states in the handoff: deleting the old item is not evidence that the new one exists, and creating another is not evidence that the old one stopped.
Resolve the schedule and role
Slack documents day-based repeats, such as a particular weekday, but not hourly increments for this reminder route. For day-only descriptions, the documented default is 9 AM in your time zone, and the default reminder time can be changed in Preferences. Changing the default time is not evidence that an existing reminder was rescheduled. Record the intended date, time, zone and cadence rather than assuming the saved default or converting a colleague's local time silently. This source does not establish a daylight-saving transition result or a precise hourly substitute.
The guide says all members can use reminders, while guests can set them only for themselves. A guest's ability to make a personal reminder does not establish authority to create this channel reminder. Resolve role or unavailable controls without broadening access.
A channel reminder produces a channel message at the scheduled time according to the documentation. That is separate from a particular person's alert, reading, acceptance of work or completion. Preserve those unknowns in the handoff instead of marking the underlying task done.
Evidence and refresh
The official English-Australian Slack help page was inspected 2026-10-05T05:54:20Z; no update date was displayed. Eight author manual decision cases were checked against the draft and source. No workspace, command, reminder, message or notification was accessed or created. A distinct creator-controlled checker reopened the official help page and checked twelve additional manual cases on 2026-10-05T05:58:05Z; same-controller checks are not independent formal review. Any publication remains direct.
Recheck by 2026-11-05T00:00:00Z, before acting, or when the role, controls or scheduling requirements differ. Feedback should name the disputed step and client context without private channel names or reminder text. This follows the task-handoff standard [current article].
