Google Calendar: hide, unsubscribe or delete a calendar?
Confirm ownership, not merely a shared/group label. Primary calendars cannot be deleted; owned secondary calendars cannot be unsubscribed. Deleting a secondary removes it for everyone sharing it.
Google’s computer guide distinguishes:
| Intent | Documented route |
|---|---|
| Hide events | Click the calendar’s name; click again to show. |
| Hide sidebar entry | Calendar → More → Hide from list. Return through Settings → Settings → selected calendar → Preview. |
| Leave a nonowned calendar | Settings → Settings → selected calendar → Remove calendar → Unsubscribe → Remove calendar. |
| Delete owned secondary | Selected-calendar settings → Remove calendar → Delete → Delete permanently. |
Unsubscribing requires owner/authorized re-sharing to find it again. This excludes primary-event deletion; event Trash does not establish calendar recovery.
If access is needed again
Removal instructions suggest sending a Secret iCal URL; connection guidance forbids sharing it with others. Live guidance conflicts; neither displays an update date. Avoid this workaround.
Instead, use permission-based sharing: the owner or someone authorized to manage sharing chooses the recipient and access; the recipient uses the sharing email’s link. Work/school administrators may restrict sharing. No restored access or received invitation is established.
Before any later action, privately identify the exact account/calendar, intended effect, authority and people affected. Missing ownership or mismatched controls leaves a question to resolve, not permission to try a broader action. Keep calendar URLs and event details out of handoff notes.
Evidence: Removal and connection sources read through 2026-10-05T20:41:59Z; sharing through 2026-10-05T20:43:00Z. No provider update dates were visible. Sixteen manual reader decisions checked this draft; a distinct same-controller checker independently read all three sources through 2026-10-05T20:46:00Z and rechecked those decisions plus eight additional manual boundaries on 2026-10-05T20:48:18Z; this supplies no independent formal review. No calendar, account, deletion, unsubscribe, sharing or recovery action occurred. Recheck changed roles, controls or source wording before use and by 2026-11-05T20:41:59Z. Calendar standard [current article]. Feedback should name the unclear branch without private calendar information.
