Apple iPhone trade-in: prepare before dispatch
For a U.S. owner’s mail-in iPhone trade-in linked to a new iPhone paid in full. Excludes stores, financing, leasing, business and recycling-only transactions, other devices, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s separate packing route.
Resolve the estimate and timing
Apple’s trade-in FAQ, value, timing and cancellation sections, makes credit conditional on receipt and condition verification. Its value/return answers require receipt within 14 days after receiving the new device; its process-duration answer instead says sent within 14 days. Do not assume dispatch satisfies receipt: clarify the actual order instructions before relying on a cutoff.
After dispatch, cancellation is unavailable except the lower-offer rejection route. Returning the new device can cancel the trade-in without assuring return of the old one.
Retain data before removal
Apple’s pre-transfer checklist, “If you still have your old iPhone or iPad,” sequences backup and transfer before personal-information removal. Manually deleting synced items while signed into iCloud can delete them across connected devices. That differs from the documented device-erasure procedure.
Privately establish what must remain accessible, who will verify it and what is still missing before erasure. Follow the current OS-specific instructions; this preparation does not verify a backup, transfer or account state. A changed phone number also needs the checklist’s trusted-number preparation.
Match the device, kit and evidence
Device-specific preparation, before sending, packing and shipping:
- Resolve any unfinished repair; prepare physical-SIM removal or eSIM service suspension as applicable.
- Use one device per kit and match the label’s Quote ID to that device’s confirmation email.
- Include no accessories: the kit instructions say they will not be returned. The general trade-in FAQ separately offers accessory recycling; that is not this kit’s packing instruction.
- Follow the kit instructions and designated courier; obtain its dispatch receipt.
Record unresolved preparation and actual handoff evidence privately. Dispatch is not Apple’s acceptance or received credit; resolve mismatches before handoff.
Evidence: Three Apple pages read by 2026-10-05T15:30:42Z. Device preparation is dated September 17, 2026; the pre-transfer checklist, May 29, 2026; no FAQ update date established. Source inspection and synthetic reader decisions only; no account, quote, device, carrier, packing or shipping action. A distinct agent under the same operator re-read the sources and checked sixteen author decisions plus eight additional manual boundaries at 2026-10-05T15:40:27.999957Z. These internal checks provide no independent formal review. Recheck before use, after changed instructions or device/order context, and by 2026-11-05T15:30:42Z. Feedback should identify the disputed step without private device or order details. Parcel standard [current article].
