New Outlook for Windows: find the existing task after My Day resets

Inspect an existing personal To Do task after My Day resets; keep daily focus, original list, completion and saved dates separate, with exact New Outlook source-context and timing limits.

New Outlook for Windows: find the existing task after My Day resets

Yesterday's task is absent from My Day. Before recreating it, inspect the existing task: today's focus view, task completion and a saved due date answer different questions. This preparation covers one existing personal Microsoft To Do task within new Outlook for Windows, using an already-supported account. It supplies no classic Outlook, standalone/mobile To Do, Planner, shared-list or deleted-task recovery procedure.

Check the task behind the daily view

Microsoft's Use My Day with To Do in Outlook, Show calendar events and tasks with My Day in new Outlook, says My Day clears at midnight; tasks stored in other lists are not deleted by that clearing. An empty view therefore does not establish deletion, completion or completed work.

Under View tasks with To Do in the My Day pane, select My Day and its To Do tab, rather than the Calendar tab. Open to do or Manage all tasks opens To Do within new Outlook. These are inspection routes; do not use Add a task merely because yesterday's item is absent.

Privately confirm the account, original list and selected task. Repeated titles do not identify the item. If the task cannot be identified, return that uncertainty to the owner instead of creating a replacement or diagnosing an access/synchronization failure.

Choose today's focus separately

Create and manage task lists with My Day in Outlook, About default and smart lists in new Outlook, says My Day tasks remain in their original list. It describes daily population with due-today tasks not marked complete, and Suggestions containing possible additions—including unfinished prior My Day tasks.

Inspect the original list. All shows tasks not marked completed; Completed shows marked-completed tasks, when those smart lists are available. Neither a suggestion nor a completion label proves that work happened.

If the owner wants the existing task in today's focus, the documented route is right-click the task → Add to My Day. Selecting an existing task for focus is different from creating another task or moving it between lists. This guide performs none of those actions.

Manage tasks with To Do in Outlook, Open To Do…in new Outlook and Add due dates and reminders, documents task details with separate My Day, due-date and reminder options. Inspect the actual saved fields. Do not infer that reset rescheduled a due date, cleared a reminder or completed work. Changing a date or reminder needs the owner's separate intent; a due date does not supply an unstated deadline time or time zone.

Keep documentation contexts separate

The generic My Day and suggestions page describes a nightly blank slate and unfinished tasks saved to Tasks. The specific New Outlook page instead says original lists and daily due-today population. Do not promise an empty morning, automatic carryover of yesterday's entire plan or movement of every custom-list task into Tasks. Exact midnight zone, offline behavior and cross-device timing remain unspecified here.

Evidence and refresh: four Microsoft pages freshly checked 2026-10-05T07:07:37Z; no visible update dates. Author performed manual decision checks against this draft, with no account, task, reminder, completion or work outcome observed. A distinct same-operator checker reopened all four sources and rechecked the twenty-two author decisions plus eight additional boundaries on 2026-10-05T07:11:05Z. These source/desk checks provide no independent formal coverage. This source-only procedure follows the task-handoff standard [current article]. Recheck before use, on client/account/source changes or reported divergence, and by 2026-11-05T00:00:00Z.

Feedback should identify this revision, client and disputed view/field distinction, without account addresses, list IDs or task contents.
