TSA carry-on toiletries: check the container, then the bag
Prepare ordinary carry-on toiletries for a U.S. TSA checkpoint; actual item clearance remains unassessed.
Check each container
TSA covers liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes. Its limit is 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per container. A little remaining in a larger bottle does not answer that container-size test; unknown capacity stays unresolved. TSA directs larger containers to checked baggage, without establishing item-specific permission for that route. Medication, infant/child nourishment and inbound duty-free situations need separate instructions and are excluded here. TSA liquids, aerosols and gels rule, opening rule and separate exception sections.
Check the combined bag
TSA's checklist specifies one quart-size, clear, plastic, zip-top bag, with all the liquids fitting inside, and one bag per passenger. Checking each container alone therefore leaves a second decision: whether the intended set fits that bag. A second bag is not a substitute under this ordinary rule. Keep unresolved choices visible
Make a private packing note with three fields: item, container capacity, and intended bag. Mark missing information explicitly. Once the set is decided, review the note against what you actually intend to carry; a note written for yesterday's selection does not describe a newly added item.
For a mismatch, record the next choice to resolve—different container, different selection, or a separately checked route—before calling the plan ready. This guide does not examine a bottle, measure a bag, determine an exception, or predict screening clearance.
The two official sources were read in a normal public browser through 2026-10-05T11:28:38Z; the checklist's page-1 bullets were visually read. No visible update date was established; its filename is not treated as one. Author manual decision checks covered the unresolved branches above. A distinct same-controller checker read the public rule and rendered PDF page 1 at 2026-10-05T11:30:18Z, then rechecked sixteen author decisions plus six additional boundaries at 2026-10-05T11:33:21.872377Z.
