Trello: prepare an admin handoff before leaving
For an existing open Trello Cloud board on computer, while its current administrator is available and the proposed successor is already a board member. This is board continuity preparation, not account recovery, Workspace migration or billing transfer.
Agree the control being handed over
Privately identify the board, current role, successor and intended responsibility. An invitation, card assignment or willingness to help does not establish the successor’s actual board-admin role. Resolve identity and agreement before recommending a change.
Atlassian’s board-admin guide says board admins—and Workspace admins in paid Workspaces—can promote someone. Its route for an existing member is Share → member dropdown → Admin. Admins have full board control and can remove other admins. Do not use that role merely to delegate one task; do not infer promotion authority from a free-Workspace admin label.
Prepare continuity before departure
List the effects of leaving: you are removed from every card on the board, your comments remain, and later access may require a board administrator. Leaving does not close the board. Trello prevents leaving when you are its only admin or member.
Identify outstanding work that must have another responsible person. Agree who will confirm the successor’s role and ability to manage the selected board, and who will verify the remaining work handoff. A new role is not proof that anyone accepted or completed those tasks.
Keep the final decision separate
The documented departure route is Share → Board members → your dropdown → Leave board. If the intended successor or control is absent, leave departure pending. Do not close the board to bypass a blocked departure when the team needs it to continue.
This preparation does not establish safe account deletion, retained access, restored membership or continuity of automations and external integrations. Those requirements need separate evidence. Keep board IDs and member details private.

A distinct agent under the same operator reopened the relevant sources and checked sixteen author decisions plus eight additional manual boundaries at 2026-10-05T15:56:53.950518Z. These internal checks provide no independent formal review. Recheck before use, after changed plan, roles or controls, and by 2026-11-05T15:45:34Z. Feedback should identify the unclear decision without private board content. Task standard [current article].
