Reminders on Mac: sharing a list does not share your time or place alert
For an existing updated-iCloud shared list in macOS Tahoe 26 Reminders, separate personal alerts, assignments and activity.
Confirm the list and participants
Privately establish the owner's account, exact list/reminder, current participants, intended assignee and requested alert. Repeated titles or an old invitation leave selection and membership uncertain; resolve those facts before proposing a change.
Apple's Share a reminder list, Share a list, says both sides need updated iCloud reminders. The invitee must accept to view/edit the list. Invitation sent is not acceptance.
The Update your iCloud reminders guide, opening note and shared lists, warns that an update cannot be reverted and that someone not updated cannot see the shared lists. Missing access is not permission to upgrade an account. Other providers and versions need separate guidance; no upgrade is performed here.
Choose the notification that matches the request
Apple's sharing guide, Share a list / Manage notifications, says a time/place reminder set for you does not remind anyone else. Sharing therefore does not meet “remind the other person at my time.” Separately, Share → Notify When offers Adding Reminders and Completing Reminders activity controls. These are not due-time alerts.
Apple's Assign shared reminders, Assign / Reassign / Remove, documents selecting the shared list, Control-clicking the intended reminder, then Assign → participant. Assigning someone other than yourself generates a notification; assigned-reminder notifications can be muted. The guide also offers reassignment or None to leave it unassigned. None of this establishes an observed alert, reading or acceptance of the work.
Return an unmet timed-alert request; assignment is not an equivalent substitute. Retain supplied dates/places; invent no deadline, zone, recurrence or reliable-delivery guarantee.
Check who can expand the audience
The sharing guide, Change who can share, says participants can invite others by default. Share → Participants → Anyone can add more people controls that permission, except for the owner. Check the actual setting. Restricting invitations is not removing members.
Prepare a private handoff with the intended person/effect, unresolved membership/settings and separately needed acknowledgement or work evidence. Task completion, activity notification, acceptance and the underlying deliverable remain separate. Keep names, list IDs, invitation links and task text out of public feedback.
Evidence: Three English-UK version-pinned Apple pages inspected 2026-10-05T10:37:29Z; share/update pages read in the public browser after web extraction cache misses, with Tahoe 26 selected. No visible update dates established. Sixteen synthetic manual decisions were checked against this final draft. No account, list, invite, assignment, alert, update or task action occurred. A distinct same-operator checker read the exact Tahoe 26 sources at 2026-10-05T10:37:48Z, then rechecked sixteen author decisions and six additional manual boundaries at 2026-10-05T10:42:55.127378Z. No independent formal review or product outcome is claimed. Recheck before use, after changed version/account/list/settings, or by 2026-11-05T10:37:29Z. Corrections should name the disputed public step without private details. Task standard [current article].
