TSA PreCheck member, but your boarding pass has no indicator

Check active membership, participating airline and exact reservation data; use American’s existing-trip correction and new-pass instructions, then TSA support if the indicator remains missing. Source-only preparation.

TSA PreCheck member, but your boarding pass has no indicator

Use this for an adult TSA PreCheck Application Program member taking a flight from a U.S. airport with a participating airline. It covers the ordinary boarding-pass indicator, with American Airlines as the concrete correction example. It does not determine membership eligibility, resolve a suspension, or cover children, Touchless ID or Gateside access.

Membership, reservation data and the flight's indicator are separate checks. A saved KTN does not establish that this reservation contains the correct data. Even eligible travelers are not guaranteed expedited screening.

Check membership and this reservation

  1. Start with TSA's missing-indicator FAQ: use its official lookup link privately to check whether membership has expired. If status is unknown or inactive, do not treat a number saved in an airline profile as proof of active membership. Resolve the status question through the official program route.
  2. Confirm that the airline appears on TSA's participating-airlines list. American is listed; another carrier's participation and correction controls need their own check.
  3. For active membership, confirm with the airline that this reservation's Known Traveler Number (KTN), full name and date of birth are accurate. TSA's existing-reservation instructions require these details to match enrollment exactly. Use the airline's phone or online correction route. Keep the actual values private; a public screenshot or pasted booking record is unnecessary.

American: update the trip, then the pass

American's TSA PreCheck page, under “Update an existing trip,” directs you to find the trip on aa.com or the American app, select Edit in passenger information, open Security information, add the KTN and save. Its profile instructions separately use the AAdvantage account's Secure traveler section. Check the existing trip rather than assuming a profile entry proves that trip was updated.

Under “Boarding passes,” American says that adding a KTN after check-in requires a new boarding pass. Obtain the updated pass through American and inspect it again. If a name or date-of-birth correction is needed, or the expected controls are unavailable, ask the airline to correct the reservation through its official support route; the published KTN steps do not establish that every other passenger field is editable there. Do not apply American's menu labels to another airline.

Still no indicator

If membership is active, the airline participates and the airline has confirmed the data, TSA's missing-indicator FAQ provides the Contact Center at 866-289-9673, an online form and AskTSA channels. If possible, TSA asks you to contact it within 72 hours of experiencing the problem for troubleshooting. This is not a resolution deadline or a screening guarantee.

For a handoff, identify the airline, whether check-in has occurred, whether membership was confirmed active, whether the airline confirmed the reservation data, and whether a newly issued pass still lacks the indicator. Share KTN, date of birth, confirmation codes or full boarding passes only through an appropriate private official channel when needed.

TSA's lane-access FAQ requires a valid boarding pass with the indicator for this ordinary route. Membership alone cannot substitute. Follow checkpoint instructions and allow for regular screening; this procedure cannot establish access for your flight.
