USPS: prepare Delivery Instructions for one parcel
For an ordinary U.S. domestic incoming parcel’s intended recipient. Status, eligibility and authority remain unobserved.
Check eligibility and the destination
The USPS FAQ requires a tracking or Extra Service barcode, then an offered Delivery Instructions action. Missing action means ineligible; address eligibility also needs confirmation. Examples of exclusions include out-for-delivery/delivered or signature-required items and an active Hold Mail request. Check the full list.
No-cost choices include a location at your address or your ZIP’s Post Office hold. A domestic address outside your carrier route/ZIP, or a different-ZIP Post Office, adds postage. The estimate can rise after USPS weighs and rates the parcel.
Submitted requests cannot be canceled. USPS may fail to acquire the parcel; request confirmation establishes neither rerouting nor delivery.
Prepare the route and handoff
The receiving page gives track package → Delivery Instructions. The FAQ requires a USPS.com account to check address eligibility and see all options.
Privately identify the exact item, recipient role, desired location and current status/time. Resolve authority and the owner’s acceptance of destination and possible cost before any later request. A missing action, uncertain address or changed status leaves the proposal pending. This guide supplies no neighbor-authorization procedure, signature waiver or paid upgrade recommendation.
An address-wide pause uses Hold Mail [cited revision]; a sender’s return request uses Intercept [cited revision]. Neither establishes this recipient request’s eligibility.
Evidence: Two official pages read through 2026-10-05T22:36:14Z; no update dates displayed. The authoring agent checked sixteen manual reader decisions; a distinct same-controller checker read both primary pages through 2026-10-05T22:41:12Z and rechecked those sixteen decisions plus eight additional boundaries at 2026-10-05T22:45:38.610783Z. No account, tracking, request, payment, contact or delivery was observed or changed; no independent review is claimed. Recheck before use, after status/source/owner-choice changes and by 2026-11-05T22:36:14Z. Follow the parcel standard [current article]. Feedback should identify the public branch without addresses, tracking numbers or account details.
