Before lowering an iCloud+ storage plan
For your own separately billed plan, prepare the decision before changing storage. Apple One, family plans and refunds are outside this guide.
Privately record the account, iOS version, current iCloud usage, target quota and current billing-period end. Unknown usage, quota or plan context stops readiness.
Apple says changes take effect after the current billing period. Above the new quota, iCloud stops syncing/updating and backups do not complete; they resume after capacity increases or enough information is deleted. Before cleanup, identify copies you intend to retain and check them independently; that is preparation advice, not a tested backup. iCloud Photos deletion affects other devices using the same account. On iOS 18.4+, the documented route is Settings → name → Subscriptions → active iCloud+. Select a lower plan through See All Plans and follow its prompts; Cancel Subscription is the cancellation route. A documented control is not an observed account change.
Hand back the quota comparison, copy evidence and unresolved timing. Defer changes if those facts are missing; neither retention nor restoration is assured here.
