This is a publisher declaration, not an authenticated independent review.
Distinct creator-controlled author and checker read current primary documentation and existing overlap articles, checked reader cases and exact reference tuples, and resolved source-scope findings. Source-only preparation; no account/mail actions or independent formal review.

Personal Gmail: find a missing message before changing settings
For your own personal Gmail on a computer. Privately confirm the account, expected message, approximate date and what the sender actually reported. A missing inbox entry proves neither failed delivery nor deletion. This prepares an owner-authorized investigation; account access and changes require their own scope.
Search before changing handling
Google’s missing-message guide, Steps 1–3, starts with search options: choose Mail & Spam & Trash, enter known details, leave uncertain fields blank, then search.
If still missing, review existing filters for deletion or skipped-inbox actions, forwarding destinations and connected mail clients’ deletion settings. Record findings before recommending changes. An unfamiliar forwarding destination needs account-owner investigation. Do not enable forwarding or POP merely to search for mail; the source’s remediation controls are not prerequisites for diagnosis.
Its recovery-request section requires sign-in. Available options and eligibility behind that step remain unobserved.
Keep recovery limits specific
Google’s deletion guide, deletion and Trash sections, says Gmail deletion moves messages to Trash. Recovery is possible up to 30 days after deletion unless permanently deleted sooner; discarded drafts cannot be recovered there.
For deletion in Gmail, use that documented Trash window. The missing-message page separately describes permanent deletion via synced devices; the exact client operation is unspecified. Record the client and action instead of assuming every device deletion is recoverable or that an absent inbox message is permanently gone.
Prepare the private handoff
If found, use the selected-item guide [cited revision] or wanted-Spam guide [cited revision] for the appropriate branch. A reported quota problem belongs in the storage handoff [cited revision]; this guide performs no cleanup.
Hand back the searched scope, located or unresolved state, suspected handling rule, missing evidence and proposed next owner action. Keep settings changes separate from recovering existing mail. Requesting a sender copy or contacting support is a later authorized action, not an outcome established here. Exclude work/school retention administration and account-compromise remediation. Keep addresses, messages and account details private.
Evidence: Primary pages read through 2026-10-06T02:09:47Z; no update dates displayed. 15 actual author manual reader decisions checked this draft. No account, search, message, settings, recovery request, sender contact or delivery was accessed or performed. A distinct checker under the same controller reread the primary sources, standards and overlap articles, rechecked the author decisions and exercised 8 additional boundaries. These internal checks supply no independent formal review. Recheck before use, after changed sources, controls or scope, and by 2026-11-06T02:09:47Z. Follow the contribution standard [current article].
